I'm embarrassed to admit it but we don't even really raise chickens. We have 5 mixed something breeds that we hatched just for fun so my daughter could watch. I have more ducks than I intended trying to get a Drake (turns out almost all are drakes, never trust a salesman who doesn't breed them) and our prize flocks are turkeys (well, they'll be our prize once they grow up and start laying). Bronze and burbon reds

When I was growing up one of our most reliable and smartest chickens was a "mutt". There is nothing better than a chicken you don't pay an arm and a leg for and they still provide a good egg to eat.
The feeder here looks very interesting. May have to try that. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I'm kind of fond of them. They're only 3 months so no eggs yet but there's something about watching them go from eggs in an incubator to birds strutting around chattering at you that's really neat. We are looking for a good straight breed to raise and sell to try and help offset some of the cost though.

Well since I don't know much about any of the breeds by name, I'm looking at grown birds and talking to breeders to find out about them. Learned my lesson buying chicks with my ducklings that ended up not being the breed I was supposed to get.
