Dale came today and got them all and the older ones I had also. My mother n law got a big kick out of them. She loved to watch them. I still have some sizzles she can babysit. lol I moved them closer to her chair so she can watch them now. She said they aren't as active as the quail. She called them little chickens. lol
She's 87 if that explains anything. lol

I will definately have them next year. My Georgia Giant bob whites should be laying in about a month. My last batch I kept of the JB's are breeding now and I wanted to take out the males and pair them up with the girls and by golly if there are only 2 girls. Good thing I got the fellas out of there except for one or those girls would have been torn up.
There where 25 of the new chicks and 7 I think of of the older ones.

Congratulations on your successful hatching of your weeee lil quail. I'm wondering what kind of quail they are and were they easy to incubate? Would you happen to know where an avian addict can get some Bobwhite Quail eggs to hatch? Or, chicks? Thanks bunches and enjoy your fine little feathered friends, PC

Thanks bunches and enjoy your fine little feathered friends, PC What I hatched out are Jumbo Browns. I have Georgia Giant Bob Whites but they aren't quite old enough to lay. I know that ellisfarms has found some bob whites. You may want to send him a PM or maybe he will chime in soon to help you out. I wuld but I just don't have any eggs or extra birds to sell.

I may get a few to actually put in my freezer this year. I either sold the chicks or eggs that I got. I got a late start this year and the demand was more than what I could do. I've been giving away the eggs lately since fertility is like 50% and i'm donw to 2 laying a day. We have to get them moved so we can put a light on them for more light a day. It's geting darker is why I suspect they're stopping. My nephew loves their eggs. He puts them in alot of things and pickles them. Or just boil, peel and eat like popcorn. I always give him the eggs in winter.

Thats a nice pen. I"m still waiting for Bobby to get pens made to get the rest of my chickens here. We got the ducks moved and he started on a pen for the white silkies and he ended up sick. Poor fella works hisself into the mud. I wish I knew how to build a pen. I can sew a cover for one or make feeders and nests but the actual construction isn't my specialty. He's the carpenter. I'll be glad when we get this place situated and he starts our wild west chicken pens. We have a cousin that wants to paint them. My white silkies will be the doctors office, the sizzles will be the saloon, the bbs will be the hotel and Blue will be the Sherrif. The partridge silkies will be store. I still have to put the banties to work somewhere. lol

We moved all our quail to the other side of the garage and the light isn't so good there. So no bob white eggs for me and even the JB's have nearly stopped. We plan to put up lights like we did during the winter. They laid all winter, every hen, every day.

Yeah, you got those from me. The white ones are Georia Giant Bob Whites and the speckled ones are JB cortunix. The bob whites take 23 to 25 days to hatch and they grow slow. Takes about 4 months for them to get to breeding age. The JB's are ready for breeding or eating at 7 weeks. I can bring you more this weekend. I have all 3 incubators going and full and the cabinet isn't ready yet so I have no room. Just let me know if you want more and i'll bring them. That is if nothing comes up and I can't make it again.
I like the JB's better. Their not so flighty when their grown and they grow fast and lay all winter providing they have 14 hours of light a day. The bob whites take longer to lay and grow and are seasonal. If a light is kept on them I hear they will lay but mine just started to lay early. If they don't have enough room they will peck at each other. That little hen I was nursing back to health is crippled but healed. I suppose she's suffered nerve damage to one foot but she gets around fine. I still have her in the house in a cage by herself. I hate to process her after the long healing process she's been through and afraid to put her back in a pen with others. So she just may become a pet if I can get her to stop running away from me. Maybe in time she will.
