I found one of my girls laying down in house yesterday. When she tried to get up her anatomical right leg wouldn't hold her up. I brought her in and checked her right leg feet toes. Moved them but when I touched right above her thigh she winced. I kept her in and of course will keep her away from the others but what do you guys think? I am hoping the rooster just hurt her and that she is okay. Has any one else had a girl hurt by a rooster and what was the injury and how did you treat it? Tks

Can you feel her hips to see if maybe something is out of joint? They wouldn't feel the same. If the bones aren't broken you may be able to pop it back in place. When I have to do something to mine that they will give a fight for I wrap them in a towel and make sure their head is covered. I saw on another site where somebody had a silkie that started out only walking backwards then couldn't walk at all. They made a contraption out of a milk crate that held the chicken up and fixed water and food right in front of them and they cleaned up after it everyday. They kept it in their house for a month or two. I don't recall how long but it was a while but the chicken did gain it's ability to walk again and was fine. They exercised it's legs everyday also, like therapy.
If something is broken up in there, idk. Depends on what all your willing to go thru if it can be healed. If the thigh bone is broken but not displaced it may be able to heal with wrapping it and keeping it off it sorta like what I mentioned above but if it's the pelvic bones I would put it down.
Just some ideas to toss out there. I have no idea whats wrong but there are some ideas. I hope your chicken gets better and it's not injured badly.

It is best not to retain fowl that exhibit this kind of weakness.

I had to have her put down. She was not getting any better. However now I have the one back that had the eye nearly taken out a couple weeks ago back in. She had her side slit wide open by a roo. peeled back hide and cut down to muscle. So far so good though, I washed with betadine and put on 3 antibiotic cream. First night put a large gause on her with vet wrap....not a good idea..gause stuck and a feather is stuck to the wound. Wanted to cut it but don't know if she would bleed and the last thing she needs is more trauma so I am just watching now. Last night she was a little p.o'd wants to be outside. She can't go out right now though so maybe this week end. I am very very happy though was able to rehome six of the roos today. Maybe it won't be so much like the wild west out there now.

I had a hen that got the skin peeled back on the entire back of her neck. I made the mistake with the gauze too. What I did is I softened where it was stuck at and used tweezers and pulled it out string by string. She ws very patient and just sat in my lap and let me do it. It did take 3 times before it was all done but she did fine and grew up to be my best layer. If your hen isn't patient I would wrap her in a towel and uncover the injured area and kep her head covered. Soften it up with neosporin and pick away. When y ou get everything out of the wound, rim the feathers away that cound get in the wound and all the way to the wound. Thats what I did and mine did great. I kept her in the house in an aquarium with food and water and a towel over her to keep her quiet. I cleaned out the poop as she dropped it to keep bacteria out as much as possible. Good luck

Thanks every body!! Does she have a name? What breed is she? I would love to make her a personalized apron if you dont mind. I made one for Moe and she strutted her stuff like a true DIVA. No charge, my gift to her. You may need to adjust the straps to fit her but i'll do the rest......please..............?

I call her Matilda. Would love to have a personalized apron for her. She is an orpington, white. Still not healed though I think this wound was really worse than I thought. She still seems ok though she loves cottage cheese and collard greens!! I think she is getting po'd hearing the others outside. I am still putting antibiotic cream on her hoping that is the right thing to do. Took her cage apart and cleaned it real good and put in clean everything. Wonder if she needs vitamins or anything to boost healing power. Thanks so much for the apron offer...
