On the other hand I had three that hatched while I was on a trip and the girl who was helping with the house and chicks told me she had to help the baby and she was born blind in one eye and while I thought she could make it ended up having her head permanenly twisted to the side she could see with and she could hardly find her food or water. It is such a hard decision. I always want to jump in and help uggggg

NOTICE!! I didn't stop and think about what i was posting. I better add to my post that i open the doors to my bator only for a few seconds at a time in a controlled enviroment. In some incubators u could decrease the high hatch rate and kill some hatching or already hatched chicks. I have been hatching for several years and had to perfect the right conditions to do what i do, so some of my methods could actually be bad for others to try.

I have six that seem to be doing well. One was in the shell to long or didn't have to do everything the right way and can't seem to straighten out. I also suspect for some reason can not lay down. I never expected it to live, but live so far it has. Would love to have it put down and out of its misery but I can not do it.

timbo How many do you have on a rack? How do they continue to hatch if the rack is full. Sorry trying to get my mind around this. My bator was pretty full and the baby's had no where to go as they hatched. :?

I have four levels the bottom being my hatching area. The top three hold 96 large to jumbo eggs per level with a total of 24 dozen eggs or The three levels will hold 192 small to bantam eggs per level with a total of 48 dozen eggs. I have trays that hold 4 dozen eggs, I usually stagger my trays to hatch at different times no more than two trays due to hatch in a 4-7 day period. My hatching tray is divided into sections according to how many breeds i have hatching at one time so chicks aren't mixed up. The command center on the incubator is set to hold exact temp of 99.5 and a humidity of 50-55% at all stages of egg development and hatchings. I don't candle my eggs the only time the bator is opened is to move trays and pull out chicks. I have a 5 gallon res. of water on a float valve constantly keeping my humidity tray topped off. I hope this helps.
