The stores that I have been to I've looked for them and had no luck. I normally don't go to many stores. Where I do go just don't have them. I try to stay out of Wally World. Things have a tendancy to jump into my cart that I didn't intend to get.

I put an ad on craigslist in the wanted section asking for minnow traps. A man called and said he had 8 and 4 where new never used. He gave me all of them. We just had to go get them. I caught a snake today in one. I think it's eyes was bigger than it's mouth. I had an orp egg in as bait. The snake could have fit inside the egg if it curled up real good. When I got it streched out it was about 18" long. I think it's a corn snake but any snake to me is a bad snake. They make me hurt myself or they damage eggs and freak out my birdies.

First snake I thought was pretty. I despise snakes. I had a nighmare about snakes again last night. I guess it's their way of getting me back for killing one of their own. I bought a fake copper head snake. One of those rubber one. I've scared the crap out of everybody. Gavin hid it somewhere now. So I bet i'll be getting scared by it next. lol

I sure hope you did not kill that beautiful harmless creature. You are privileged to even see one of those. Very rare in these parts.

Do you know what it is? I looked in my book and couldn't find an exact match. The closest it came was to a scarlet snake and a corn snake but it's belly was white with the black spots

That looks like a corn snake! They come in a multitude of colors, and they're as harmless as they come.
If you need help relocating it, let me know and I'll be happy to help out. Non-venomous snakes don't phase me. I raised two baby ball pythons when I was in college, so I got my fair share of snake bites, while they were learning how to eat. Haha.

I thought maybe a King Snake, too, but the stripes don't really have that uniform pattern that you see in that species. Either way, no matter what it is, it is really beautiful! Thank you for sharing your pictures with us!

I'm sorry to say that I already killed it before I posted the pics. If I had known I would have taken it to Reelfoot Lake Museum where they would have put it on display and took care of it. If I catch another one I will definately take it there. I feel bad for killing it now. I just don't like snakes at all. Even harmless ones will make me hurt myself trying to get away. But when I do see any in the yard and it hasn't startled me I will chase it down and kill it.
Sorry if I offended any snake lovers but i'm not a snake lover and never have been.

Herb - the one your holding is just like the one I had except it was obviously a very young one. It could have fit inside of an orp egg but when streched out it was about 18" long
