Well, I raised 5 black australorp for 6 weeks, left the door unfastened on the tractor and came back from getting their food 2 minutes later to 3 dead chickens. How can I merge the chickens with my dogs? The dog in the picture is the killer, the other is now so afraid of the chickens (due to my reaction to the killing) that she won't even look at them. Can you ever merge them especially since she has already killed? Thanks

I would have to say that's not gonna happen now since she already killed some once they get that first taste of blood it's natural instinct for the, to want more. It could have started off as just playing then when the chickens run it becomes game on and they won't stop till they catch one then another and another till their gone. I've seen too many dogs do it with many animals not just chickens

So sorry thats never good. Well as far as breaking the dog it depends on the dog. I have a small dog that tried to get one of my birds and i caught him and whooped the stuffin out of him and he wont go near them now. On the other hand my boxer will go after them if they run no matter how much i whoop or shock him. It all depends.

We've had many dogs come and go. The ones that went are the ones that bothered my chickens. Somebody dropped off a really nice small dog last week and we thought to keep her since she was housebroken and just an all around nice dog till she chased one of my silkies into the wood pile. Bobby had to make her stop to save the chicken. She was rehomed the next day. Stray dogs that show any interest in my chickens never leave the yard.
You won't be able to trust that dog around your chickens. Like said before if it runs they'll chase it till they catch it and repeat with the rest. You'll either have to keep the dog penned away from your birds or find it another home or find the chickens another home.

You might be able to discourage him from going after them in your presence, but I would not trust him to be unsupervised.
