I posted this on the post were I first started looking for the eggs but, figured I needed it here. I am looking for advice on taking care of mama hen and her chicks. How do I make sure each of them get the food they need? They are in a 6x3 pen and have a small dog kennel inside that. Do I need to remove the shavings out of the pen for a while so the chicks don't try to eat them? Does it matter if mama eats the same food as the chicks? Any suggestions are welcome. Three babies and still hatching! YEAH!!
Thanks All, Gayle

I also have a couple of mommas with a couple of chicks and I have shavings in the pen and I keep water available and I also keep the dish they are all eating out of full of chick starter. It's high in protein and it's fine for them all to eat. They won't eat the shavings. The mommas take care of the babies and make sure they safe.
It's the easiest I've ever had because mommas take care of the babies.
