Hello to everyone from Benton county...my husband and I started raising chickens this yr so still learning..so far...eleven grown chickens and 49 chicks from newly hatched to three months old...We had a silkie that went broody and tried unsuccessfully to break her for two weeks and then decided just to let her hatch four and be a mama. Also borrowed an incubator so could take "all the extra" the other hens were trying daily to give her and incubate them...Question now is...she has four week old chicks she is raising well and now am hatching out new chicks, two this morning....will she take on the new ones as they're hatching along with still being a good mama to the others. Or will she try to kill them? Has anyone had good luck with this situation? Thanks for any help and comments... debc

It depends on the hen. Try sneaking a few under her of not so newly hatahed chicks and watch her. If she starts pecking at them take them out.

thanks, this hen accepted a chick she had been sitting on and we had basically given up on it hatching and put in the incubator...I took it to her about three hours after I took it out of the incubator so am hoping even tho a week has past since then, she will be so gracious to these two new ones...will let yall know !

Guess yall all think I'm crazy......I put both of them under her...one at a time and watched her ...the first chick didn't seem to want to accept her for about 45 min but she didn't seem to have a prob with it..the other litlle chicks pecked a couple of times...Then after about three hours I put the second one up next to her and they seemed to take to each other fine...hope all goes well tonite....we will see what the morning brings !
