why is it SOOO hard to narrow down what you want to raise...lol i KNOW i have to set myself strict limits (or ill have 50 different breeding pens lol)
and i KNOW i have to get breeds that will "support themselves" (in otherwords lay enough to have extra eggs to sell or popular enough to hatch and sell the babies.
ive already decided i want brown leghorn roos over barred rock hens (that cross should give me auto sexing chicks that are good layers overall)
but then theres the other 2 breeds im going to allow myself lol. i like cochins, brahmas, and Salmon Favrolles, araucanas,

The faverolles is a good choice. I have thought about getting those before. I really want blue laced red wyandottes too. I only have one and he is old. ~Rebecca

I have a small flock of blue lace if you want some in the spring. They are only 4 months right now. I bought eggs from a hatchery in Iowa and had a horrible hatch rate but did end up with 3 hens....and 4 roos if anybody needs 1!

There are a lot of important heritage breeds that are hard to find and need preservation. The big problem is finding stock that is legitimate.

I have decided to focus on Orpingtons. I just love the breed. I recently hatched out four babys that are from a Copper Maran momma and a buff Orpington. They are beauitful. I am waiting to see what color and size these eggs will be. Pretty psyched. I will post a pic when I get home they are really beauitful.
