Anyone know how much hay I should expect to need for 3 goats this Winter? Also, any recommendations on someone who has hay appropriate for goats? I kind of would like rolls, but I might need it delivered.

Well bermudra mix hay is what i use, i buy it by the square bale to keep the goats from peeing, pooping, and sleeping in it. I had my round bales in a ring it still didnt help. The best thing is a square bale in a hay rack. I get my bales from my neighbor.

I may decide on the square bales. Does your neighbor sell to anyone else? How much does he charge?

The first winter we had our goats we got a round bale and kept it outside the goat pen. We would feed it to them as they needed it. One bale lasted all winter for our goats, and they didn't eat all of it, there was a lot they spread around on the ground but didn't eat, and we used it as bedding in their pen and in the nesting boxes for the chickens.

That's pretty reasonable. Does he have any now? I'm thinking Hay season is going to be coming to a close soon. How many do you thing I would need for 3 goats? I'm thinking around 40-50 bales.

We had 2 goats. They don't need a special kind of hay. Last winter we couldn't get a round bale (the year we got a round bale a man down the street sold it to us and brought it to us, we didn't have anything to get it with), and we just got whatever the local feed store had. But my understanding is they don't have to have good quality hay like horses do. We didn't even cover ours up. If we found a moldy section we just threw it out. Are you going to use feed, too, or just hay? Ours liked hay but definitely still wanted feed. We tried to get the little hay blocks but they wouldn't eat them. They were so hard we had to break them up, and then they would only eat them every now and then.

I think he has quite a bit. He keeps a barn full.

We were going through anyway. I am not sure I would drive there for it. It's over 30 miles one way for me.
