I have a young D'uccle showing strange symptoms....like a seizure maybe. She is completely normal acting and healthy. She has had these symptoms twice. I bathed her and she became limp and ataxic. Her eyes would become weak and close. The best way I can describe it is she just becomes lifeless. I put her by herself and she just slept the rest of the day. The following day she was active and normal again. Any ideas on this?

WOW! Is she getting chilled. I haven't ever had that problem. Maybe someone else can help you.

I made sure she was dry. I even used a heated blow drier. Can they still get chille d if its 90+ degrees? It's definitely either shock induced or something neurological. I'm bringing her tomorrow if she's alive.

Well we washed ours in the kitchen sink and the house temp was in the high 60's -low 70's. They were getting chilled until we got out the hair dryier. So thats the reason i thought that. How is she doing today?

Right now she seems to be doing well. I have her separated from everything. I am currently feeding her TM crumbles, and she has perked up quite a bit. She has a good appetite and doesn't have diarrhea. She is very vocal and clucks often. Her keel bone is pretty prominent, but she seems to be putting on some weight. She feels heavier anyways. How fast does it take for a sick bird to drop weight? I've been constantly checking the rest of the flock for any symptoms, and so far so good. I'm feeding them TM crumbles right now to...just to be safe. The only thing I've noticed is they have stopped laying. Do they stop during a molt? They are early March pullets...is it time for them to start molting? The kids had fun at their first show. Thanks for all the help.

glad she is doing better. Alot of birds are molting right now. The poor birds will slow down or stop production until they are done. We enjoyed having the kids at the show. Those were some nice birds. The RIR rooster was very impressive. A perfect example of a show quality bird. Hope to see yall in the memphis show.

I would bet money she got chilled. They are strong little creatures but sometimes that is one thing that will get a very young one. I never wash mine but I would if they really needed it but would be so darn careful with the temp of the water and the house (yes I would only wash in the house) and make sure the temp was quite warm. Glad she is doing better.
