I got chiggers again from retreiving a bird from the woods behind the house.
And Gavin got all scratched up from the thorn bushes. I've been letting the Guinea and young turkeys out everyday and decided to give it a try with the adult turkeys. Well...........Ol Tom decided he wanted to roam in the woods and Gavin spotted him.So he went after him and had him cornered in some thorn bushes. He came and got me to help. The Tom is nearly as big as he is. Anyway he got the top flushed out to where I was and I grabbed him and just as Gavin came to help he slipped out of my hands so off back into the woods he went. Gavin tracked him al the way down into the gully where it's very thick brush and even more thorn bushes and Tom was "hiding" in the middle of some very dense thorn bushes. By the time I made it down there he was thinking he was really hiding and I came in from his front and Gavin behind him and we got him. He nearly got away agian and I grabbed the only thing I could reach and it was his tail. He couldn't get away then. I carried him all the way back up the hill and put him back in his pen. By this time the other 2 young girls had gone in there with the adult hen. It was a sight to watch Gavin jumping over alot of the thorn bushes like a deer. If anybody was watching us they probably was about to split a gut laughing
Do turkey lay eggs in the winter? My hen is still laying although it isn't winter yet I was curious. She didn't stop laying when the other 2 girls moved in like the silkies to but the silkies are always looking for a chance or reason to go broody anyway. Lazy Chickens. lol
