I have two actually. First I have a hen that seems to be wanting to brood for a good while in the mornings but then changes her mind.the weather for last few days has been getting below freezing at night,so I am concerned that the eggs may freeze while hen is not on them and if that happens will the eggs no longer be viable even if she does deside to set? I would'nt want her wasting her time unessisaribly! Sorry I can't spell either.anyway, second is,if I deside to gather eggs and wait till weather is better, she may not be in the mood any more. So question is, how long before she's ready again and how many times a year will they get all hormonal? I'm sure breed as well as other factors determine this. If anyone can shed a little light it would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't give her any eggs to sit on. They will get too cold if she stays off them more than longer to eat, drink and poop. Broody's don't normally get off their eggs often. At least mine don't. If it was warmer it might not be a problem but it's too cold right now.

That's what I was thinking just needed to know for sure. If I wait a few more weeks then leave a couple eggs, how likely is it that she will again want to start to brood?

By the way, your silkies are beautiful! I've always wanted to try raising some, there so pretty to watch, and I've had a couple in the past, just not had much luck ,I think maybe the age of the birds I had, even still they were no where near as nice as yours.

You could mark a couple of eggs to leave in as decoys. I generally don't set my hens with the good eggs until they have been broody for several days.
