The night before last my dog some how got into one of my hen houses and snatched my little girl right off her nest.now I am trying to incubate the eggs myself, without an incubator!.All I had was an old heat lamp, empty pet carrier ,towel for eggs to lay in and a water bottle to moisten the towel just a bit on outter area of where I nestled the eggs.as far as heat goes I am mostly going by touch comparing how warm they felt when momma wasdoing the job.(lamp emits a lot of heat so I check them regularly).also I candled and their all at different stages of development! I think shortly after she started settin,my other hen was laying in the same box(daily),just before she got the same notion to start settin days later.I'm obviously very inexperienced!anyway I could'not leave all the eggs for the other hen cause between the two of them there were to many. I have seven and now I'm on day two and can see movement in most.but like I said I'm new and all seem to be at different stages.some look to bee very small(but w/movement)but there's two that are very full. One not as much as the other, however I can still catch a glimpse of movement in the lesser one.I'm afraid the fullest one is to full to even see anything.I hope its still lives could'nt really see movement.i really don't want to mess this up, as I have never done this before, and I guess I'm wandering if anyone has any advise.

get u a digital thermometer/humidity gage from wall-mart to put inside the box. Its gonna be a tough incubation. I haven't ever attempted to do incubate that method. Maybe someone else on here has and can assist you more.

Thank you all for being so helpful.I'm happy to report that I have sucessfully hatched one of my adopted eggs w/another one on its way today.the first week was rough staying up all night every night, searching the internet, cramming everything I could learn in very little time and keeping those eggs alive! Yeah! Anyway,I'm thrilled.I have new baby Cochin chicks! my hen also hatched a couple so far that are in good health, but unfortunately,I had one with a neck problem that would have some kind of convulsion and end up on its back.(it died).also yet another that has a crooked leg and foot that goes out to the side and turns upward.I band aided the legs so it can at least keep it under it some what, can now sit on honches, and tries to hobble, but still can't walk.its sad, looks like the little pinguine in happy feet.anyway, just wanted to update and say thank you.and my little babies thank you too.

Yes, but as challenging as it has been. I have really gotten exited over it all.so unfortunately for my husband,I may have to get him to buy me an incubator.I can see how easy it could be to become a hatch-a-holic.from candeling then to sweet relief when the little fuzzys finally get here, and of course knowing there healthy.but very heart breaking when somethings wrong with one.

It is very addicting. Bad part is having to feed them all. It gets expensive if you don't sell them right away.

Where are you located? I know it's too late now, but I have a still air Hovabater that you could have borrowed. The fan went out and it has no turner, but it works.
