Don't know if any one has ever heard of it,but I finally figured out the main problem with my chicks dying after hatch.I first thought some may have gotten damaged when the dog got one of my hens.but after more research online I found something which describes symptoms chicks were having before death.its hereditary! Not sure if its rooster or one of the hens.I'm afraid to rebreeding because its heart breaking to see.supposedly the best way to describe it is that one or both parents Carrie either gene(LL,Llorll) LL being pure and does not carry a death sentence, Ll is only a carrier and can pass it on to some of their offspring.ll has congenital loco and lives only1-9 days.symptoms are, it effects equal librieum and brain ,no control over muscles, and head bobs around like a Bobble head and usually draws to one side. as chick tries to move, it almost looks like it spasms and convulses throwing its self on its back.looking like little siezures.can not walk ,eat or drink.so even if it does'nt die from illness shortly after hatch,it dies of starvation and dehydration soon after.I'm so sad!

Bantam Cochin. But I think it usually found in breeds like leghorn, rir and a few other breeds that I don't remember.

I discovered something about silkies that I didn't know when I was searching for an answer to a problem. Silkies skulls are open at the top. There is just skin over their brains and a small strip of bone going along the middle. So when we get the vaulted skulls it's really their brains not skull. It explained to me why it's important for silkies not to get a head injury because it can be fatal. I found it on Brown Egg Blue Egg site. Here's the link. There is alot of good info on this site. browneggblueegg.com/Article.htmlYou can go here to start at the home page of the site. browneggblueegg.com/index.html
