I had thought that my Guinea had stopped laying not long after I let them loose to do what they do best.........eat bugs. Gavin had found a nest that had about 7 eggs in it so I'm thinking......ok I have a few laying. But the past few days no eggs in that nest. This evening I saw the white roo just standing my my Iris bed so I thought I would "chat" with him. I walked up and immediately saw eggs. I walked up closer and there where 2 hens in there with eggs everywhere. So we raided the nest about an hour later after one hen and the roo left to go roost for the night. One hen is obviously broody. She wasn't happy about us taking her eggs but she settled back down after we got them. I took them in and candled them and most of them where showing veins. I filled one turner and part of another and took her out 5 eggs to sit on. I'm wishing I had marked them. I dno't have room in my bator for anymore anyway.
I finally got my cabinet up and running so now I have 3 trays of guinea and quail eggs and another tray of quail eggs to go in tomorrow after I fill it up. I took the turner out of the hovobator that I have some quail and sizzle eggs on lock down. It wasn't 30 minutes after I layed the eggs on the floor of the bator and 3 quail hatched. Phew that was a close one. The sizzles aren't due till saturday. They're from the new splash sizzle pullet that I had put in the last show. I set 5 eggs and they are all fertile so pretty good for a pullet and a roo with 7 ladies to take care of.
Just thought I would share. i was excited to find all those eggs. Most of them are in different stages of development except for 7 and I suppose they have been recently laid. There where 65 eggs. Way too many for 1 hen to sit on. I may move her to one of the empty pens with her eggs so the other hens won't lay anymore under her.
