Do any of you know how I can rig up something to pick and dump 50 feed bags? There has to be a way I just can't figure it out. I am getting old enough now that it has become an issue. Thank you for any ideas/input Tim not sure if this is the best place for this if not please move. Cindy

Got any Grandkids? I use the wheelbarrel when I can't do it myself and nobody is here to do it for me. I do have to lift them myself but don't have to move them one bag at a time. I use plastic totes and set the bag on the lid of one tote with the top hanging over into the tote I'm filling and just pull the string and raise the bag up by the bottom end. Dumping them is the easy part.

Cindy I agree about the teenagers. The two that was supposed to help me complain about the bags being too heavy. their ages 15 and 18 years old. Then I end up carrying them. Kids these days.

You all know the size of my grandson Gavin. He can pick up and carry a 50# bag of feed with less trouble than I do. When he's here and there is feed to be carried he will carry it with no complaints for me because he knows what it does to my back when I do it. I may have trouble getting him to do little things such as feeding the dog but when it comes to my health and safety he jumps right in. He has put himself between me and a swarm of wasps to keep me safe. Those 15 and 16 year old kids are just plain lazy. My older grandson is 14 and he is the laziest one i've ever seen. The 12 year old can work circles around the 14 year old anyday. Kids theses days are allowed to be lazy with most families having to have both parents working they have little guidance and video games don't help at all either. I've been thinking of your problem and unless you have one of those things that picks up motors out of cars and can be rolled to where it needs to be (cherry picker) I can't think of any other way of picking up the heavy bags. If you have the means to put in one of those metal beams that you can put a roller on that has one of those other things that car be used to pick up heavy things. (come-a-long?) I sure wish I could think of what all that crap is called. I'm drawing a blank but what I'm talking about you could pull up to the door of where you store you feed. wrap a chain or strap around the bag and lift it with the doo-hicky I can't think of it's name right now then just pull it along the metal beam to where it's to be dumped. Then lower the bag so it lays on something that is by where you intend to dump the feed and just pull the string to open it and raise up the bottom of the bag to dump it. Being able to get one of those that has buttons to push just to raise and lower would be great but probably hard to find and certainly expensive.
Maybe somebody can come along and post the name ofwhat it is that i'm trying to describe. Bobby used to drive a truck and he delivered airconditioning units and they had to be strapped down. The part that tightened the straps could be used in a way to lift the bags or used to strap the bag to the lift thingy that I can't think of the name of. Bobby is at work or I would have the names of these things right off the bat. The whole contraption would mean installing some things but once done it would make moving and dumping alot easier.
Maybe if this idea would work for you, you may be able to find the parts on Craigslist.

In the fall, I always compare corn prices at feed store with the deer corn which comes in 40# bags. If it the same or very close i buy the beg deer corn. It's amazing at my age how much difference 10# makes.
I just brought in 990 pounds last week so it will be a couple weeks before I need to tote heavy bags and I did have help this last time.

I'm glad I downsized my flock. With all these sizzle chicks I'll be feeding a bunch of juveniles thru the winter most likely. I go thru about 250 lbs a month right now.
