I haven't seen any activity in a while. What is everybody up to these days? Got any projects going? I'll get it started. I've started hatching. Mostly my eggs but I do have some b/b/s orp eggs in the bator from another breeder since I have 1 hen and no roo. I have some lavender orp eggs getting shipped tomorrow and someb/b/s english orps getting shipped tomorrow and I"m hoping to win an auction for some spangled english orps as well. With any luck I'll have orps coming out my ears. The set in the bator are all fertile. Amazing for shipped eggs. Hopefully at least half will hatch. I'd love for them all to hatch but that may be hoping for too much.
My splash eggs were not fertile, none of them. All 19 were duds. The day after I candled I found my splash roo dead in the pen. He had to have something going on I couldn't see. He was acting perfectly normal. Luckily I had a back up that is about to be 10 months old, I think. I have a couple more cockerels that need a new home. If I have the frizzled silkie partridge one come show time I'll be entering him and he will be for sale also. I lost my paint roo also and I need a black roo to put in the paint pen with the paint girls. That should make more spots as mine don't have enough. I'm hoping to get him from Travis when he gets back from the Newnan show. So as of so far this winter I've lost 2 roos. I took the paint hens to the vet because they had runny poo like the roo did and it turned out to be worms. I"m gonna have to chance wormer. I think I'm gonna get it from the vet for all of them maybe every 3 months. That should keep those nasty parasites away. I never had problems with worms till we moved here.
I don't have any projects but I do have plans. I'll be selling my lighter splash hens and replacing them with some with more darker spots. The blue cream pullet that hatched from my porcelain pen is laying and I'll be hatching her and her mothers eggs to add more girls to that pen. I have another pullet that came from that pen but she is colored a bit strange. I want to see what she produces before I decide to sell her too. I'm gonna put a black roo in with my paint girls to add more spots and hopefully fluffier crests and I have a paint pullet to put in that pen as well. I need to add more sizzles to my sizzle pen since 4 of the 6 are getting old. Well they're 4 years old this year. One of the white hens is laying crappy eggs even with the extra oyster shell and greens and added protein I give them. I'm also getting some white silkie eggs soon so I can hopefully hatch some girls for my white roo. Then once I get the pens I have the way I want them I'm gonna work on getting lavender silkies. I may just stop there. I'm getting some buff silkie eggs too. The breeder has a sizzle in with regular silkie hens and a roo and I"m hoping I can add a buff sizzle to my pen. If not frizzled they will go in the 2nd sizzle pen where the roo is frizzled and the girls aren't. I got those weird colored ones from that pen. I have a small black silkie pullet that has gold leakage in her hackles but while all the other pullets are big enough to go in the breeding pens she is still small. Fully feathered and does and acts like a chicken like the rest of them. She's just too small to put with any roo I have. I may just keep her and donate her to the St Jude auction. She should grow more by then. She would be a year old. She's the only one that I really can't use. Right now she's too small for the roo in the 2nd sizzle pen. That was my original plan for her. I know I won't be keeping all the chicks that I'll be hatching till april. I pick them out carefully.
Who all is going to the Newnan show this year/ What are you taking? I'm not going so I would love to hear about it.
