Attached, please find a Farm Service Agency factsheet describing their Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP). You will note, as stated in the opening paragraph, that this program provides “…..benefits to livestock producers for livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality caused by adverse weather that occurred on or after Jan. 1, 2008 and before Oct. 1, 2011, including losses because of hurricanes, floods, blizzards, disease, wildfires, extreme heat, and extreme cold.†The factsheet also includes a description of who is eligible, how to sign up, how to apply, and payment rates for different classes of livestock (for 2009). The FSA is trying to spread the word through their normal procedures (newspapers, radio and television) and having this factsheet available for producers who report losses to UT Extension will help increase awareness. I am sure that the local FSA office will be happy to help your livestock producers utilize the LIP program to offset their loss. Respectfully, Justin Justin Rhinehart Asst.
