Can anyone recommend a good goat vet in the Ripley area? I would like one that doesn't need me to explain what the CAE test is...

What about Dr. English? I've heard great things about him. But mostly from horse and cattle people.

yeah, me too - absolutely incredibly dumb rude office staff, though, so haven't been able to talk to him to see how much he knows about goats unfortunately.

Well that stinks. If you ever do actually get to talk to him make sure you tell him that.

We took our cat to him to be declawed and I was not impressed. He didn't sew his feet up or anything and did not do a good job. He has several claws that grew back. He's cheap, but we won't be going back. I have never taken livestock to him, though, so I don't know how he is with other animals.

A lot of livestock vets don't want to be bothered with 'pets'. A cash animal takes priority over a family pet.

I know a lot of people take their cats/dogs to him. He is a "country vet" so to speak.
We were looking for someone to band our baby goats awhile back and my husband just called around to different area vets asking for livestock vets they could recomend. Good luck with your search, bikerchick!

If you don't mind coming to Jackson I bet Dr. Deming might treat goats. (731) 225-5345 is her cellphone/work number. She is typically an Equine vet as well. She treats my horses and I really like her.

I finally got past the dumb woman who thinks she knows everything at the front desk by walking in and I am very impressed with him. He came out and saw the goats, llama, and horse. I like his farm manner and knowledge... too bad he has an idiot at the front desk. The UT Goat expert (Ann Peischel) told me to use the Univ of WA diagnostic Lab, which Dr English had no problem with, I printed out the cost sheet and paid him at the farm... great guy, not hurried, gentle with my "family".... very pleased.

I'm glad you finally got through to him, because I really have heard great things about him. My grandfather (in Ripley) uses him for his cattle and he's not really the type to put up with some nonsense from a vet and definitely wouldn't recommend him unless he thought he did a good job.
