So there I was chicken free and the wife was loving every minute of it then it happened. I got 3 bantam cornish from Mr. Herb my closest chicken club member! It is a chicken~palooza at Mr. Herb's house anyways I got 3 little bantam cornish from him and 7 barnyard mixes that ought to be pretty interesting! Although the wife says NO INCUBATORS so I will not be hatching anything for awhile at least not till I get my wife warmed back up to my birds lol
Thanks Tripp

Did you not go through "Chicken Withdrawal" when they were gone? Congrats on being fully feathered again!

What? *****Although the wife says NO INCUBATORS***** Ya' gotta 'splain it to her: it's either an incubator, or YOU gotta sit on 'em for 3 weeks! Order the incubator tomorrow.

This is not the best time of year to be running a 'bator in an 'out house', but if it keeps the misses happy, then "go-for-it". A day without chickens is kind of like a day without EGGS....else, what would you do with all of that bacon? Hmmm.

You guys are funny...Yep I agree, a day without chickens is like a day without blood pressure medicine...It makes my head hurt and I feel bloated. Lets see, that makes me how old now?!?! Oh well, glad to know you are back in chickens. And good luck with your fall hatchings/hatchlings.

The only thing I plan to hatch this winter is quail. I have been a "quail hatcher" for about a month or so now. I have no idea how many I have right now but they will all go in my freezer as soon as they get big enough. That was my plan when I got them. I did do a little experiment though. I put 4 fresh eggs and 4 refrigerated eggs, all from my girls, in the incubator. Last night with help I got 3 refrigerator chicks and 1 fresh egg chick. Here's the pics. There are 2 bitter ones in the pic. They as you can tell hatched days ago. Attachments:

If you want to keep hatching quail eggs I would be interested in getting a few of them from you and brooding them. I just don't have an incubator. (sounds like that is a good thing, lol). My little cousin (he's 14 I guess I should stop calling him little) has shown some interest in raising quail with me.

I could sell you some chicks if your interested. You'll have time to get an incubator. Unless you plan to start out big, I would just get a trio. I have 8 hens and they keep my incubators full. I have some Bob whites that are 6 and 7 weeks old. I really haven't looked to see how many roos and hens I have because they are just going my my freezer. I do plan to keep back 2 quads for next year since they are seasonal layers. I have 19 jumbo browns and manchuren that are about a week old. Too young to tell the sex of. I have more hatching today. I'm thinking with the manchuren the solid yellow ones are the cockerels and the striped ones are the pullets. But not sure as i'm new at this. If your interested in any chicks just call me 731-538-2315, If it's busy keep trying. I have dial up.

The Bobwhites are actually what I'm interested in. Let me talk to my cousin and see where he wants to keep them. Thanks!
