How does this cold weather effect the hatchability of eggs?
I cant seem to get the humidy and temp right on my LG incubator. The temp was steady between 98 and 102 but only 38 percent humity. Then I put a humidifier in the roo and it reached 48 percent humidity. then i put a space heater in the room and the temp reached 105!!!! So much for those eggs.
This is getting frustrating.

#1 I have hatched eggs gathered in freezing weather just fine. However if the egg has frozen, there is a good chance it has hairline cracks and should not be incubated. #2 Get rid of the foam incubator. Yes, I have hatched plenty of eggs that way and millions upon millions have been hatched. Get a Brinsea! www.brinsea.com/products/octagon20eco.htm

We use an LG and have actually had really good hatch rates-except when we use the turner. The temperature always fluctuates in it and has gotten really hot and really cold and they still hatched. We get sponges to keep the humidity up. It usually stays at 30 something percent no matter what we do.
I'm surprised your eggs are hatching. We haven't had any eggs in at least a week, other than from the duck. She lays every day.

I'm having the same problem. I don't have many eggs left in the bator but have staggard hatch dates up till the 29th. I have all the wells full and 2 sponges and can't get the humidity up past 45. It's a struggle to keep it from dropping. It got down to 38 yesterday. I guess from using the heat in the house now it's burning te humidity out of the air and the incubator thru the air flow.
I hatched out 16 silkie chicks in the past 2 days with only 2 egg left to go and I think it's a quitter. ONly 1 chick has leg problems and I blame that on the humidity. It's a miracle it's only 1 with the humidity dropping. I lost 1. I reckon it just didn't cook right or something.
My silkies seem to have stopped laying except for the frizzle and silkie/polish mix. And their eggs have been freezing before I get to them. My Buff O's and RIR's are still laying but by the time I get out there they're frozen. Even the quail have slacked off on laying.

I think I licked the humidity problem. I put 2 space heaters and 2 humiditers in the room. I turn one of the heaters off during the day.
I can't believe your silkies stopped laying; Mine are laying like champs. My Golden Comets are still going strong, But my polish, Buff O's and Australopes are done.

I just hatched chicks. I have the incubator and turner and never have a problem hatching. Hatched Christmas chicks yesterday.

Unless your eggs are at hatching date, 30-40% humidity is fine. I never increase the humidity until day 19 and then only to 65%. Once the first few eggs hatch, you can't control it and you'll have plenty of humidity. This is using an old foam Hovabater with a fan.
