for all of us who are getting older and not as strong as we once were I have been pondering what to do about the frozen water. My hose has been frozen so I am humping waterers back and forth, having most of the water splash out or with one when I tip it up have all four gallons of water gush all over. I knew there had to be a better way. My houses are out a ways and like mentioned above all of the other issues has absolutely exhausted me, and with a knee that needs surgery I am also in horrible pain. Ok so after all that here ya go my answer to my , and hopfully some of you guys problem ......I had horses up until the last the year. I still however have those huge waterers that I keep out for them AND in the winter they have defrosters to keep water from freezing. So they are too deep for the chicks but what they are is a great place to keep unfrozen water. I am going to clean them well and put them out, at least one, in the middle of the three houses, hook up the defroster, cover it with a piece of wood, put some oxine in it to keep scum out and WALLLA unfrozen water with in a reach deleating the need to hump those heavy waters back and forth!!!! I can get my water right there and then when hoses are defrosted refill.... I hope this helps others...for me I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulder, back and knee. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!

Thats a good idea. You can also take the deicer and place it under the the poultry waterers but your hose is froze up it wont do much good. We take our hoses and unhook them from the fauset and place it running down hill so no water stays in it to freeze.
