I have six chicks that are 2 weeks old today and I have had six more (so far) hatch out today. Obviously I can't brood them together at this point. But at what age would it be safe to put them all together?

I would say when your youngest ones are close to fully feathered out, around 3 weeks.

Also depends on what you mean by "safe" I have a couple breeds where alien chicks of any age are in danger. When you do introduce them, do it late evening just prior to roost.

The husband is dying to build me a new brooder box, he saw one that has two compartments in a book. When he gets that under way I will post pictures. For now the old one will do when it gets warmer. Right now they brooder consists of a rubbermaid tub inside. It's just too cold! 3° this morning.

BTW, this hatch went more like I expected. They are suppose to hatch today. Went to bed last night with six rocking eggs and woke up to 6 hatched chicks. Expecting more to be hatched out when I get home, hopefully.

By the looks of things it's seems like those two RIR roos might have had their way with the buff orpingtons. I have two beautiful little ginger colored chicks. I'm guessing a barred rock roo doesn't throw reds.

If you have an extra pen, that is strange to all of your birds, you can pretty well mix any kinds of birds without problems. They are all skeptical of new surroundings and usally not agressive to each other.

Last spring I mixed some up as long as 3-weeks apart...they did not even know the difference. Then I got some at 6-weeks after the first ones and I did keep them in a storage tote in my upstairs bedroom for three weeks till they got large enough to peck back if need be and then introduced them but stayed with them for a bit, made a temporary area in the yard and put them all out in the grass together for the first time so that EVERYTHING was new to everyone them just put them back in the brooder together and all is well that ended well.
