Mike, hon, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but chickens are basically flightless and clipping their wings won't keep them from running on their little bird legs. Now if your yard is fenced,it will hinder them from flying over it,but they can hop over 4 ft high. It's easy to clip them. You just clip a few inches off of one wing, just one. It's the unbalanced wing that keeps them from flying.

Now, they may not go over the fence. Just because they can, doesn't mean they will. Mine have the world at their feet and only go 50 ft or so away from the hen house, unless they come to the porch to eat the cat's food.

Mike I either cut the center feathers leaving the 3 or 4 on the wing tips or i will pull the center ones out this seems like the best way for me they do not grow back as fast as clipping It is easy you pull 1 feather at a time they actually come out very easy and i have not had any to bleed to amount to anything If you put about a teaspoon of red cell to a gallon in your waters every time you water it will help on the renewing of feathers also give them some soybean meal or cottonseed meal or fish meal and some calf manna in their feed this makes them slick out and they will have their feathers shinning in a short time I just wish it would work on this knowledge spot on the top back part of my head tho I know it has to be a knowledge spot it I simply refuse to call it a bald spot As I gain more knowledge I seem to loose more hair the increased knowledge has to have more room so it simply pushes out another hair thanks james
