I missed one of my oldest hens when I let the flock out this morning and my breath caught in my throat. She is 7 years old and every time I check on her, I worry that she did not make it through the night for some reason. I tiptoes into the house, and there was my "Nanny", in the nest box. I got to thinking, that has got to be close to a record, so I decided to ask: How old is your oldest(confirmed)laying hen? Mine is Nanny, at 7 years old.

I had an old game hen that lived to be 17 and an old cock that made it to 19. She actually quit laying around 15. He died in the winter and I had raised chicks from him the previous spring.

This may sound like a dumb question but then concider whos asking it. ;D About how long does a chicken live? Not the meat birds. I suppose those get too big if let live. They're meant for the freezer at an early age.
