Hi everyone. Greetings from Gibson County. My fiancee has raised turkey and chickens before but this is all new to me so please be patient if I ask obvious questions. I guess for starters, I can say that I hatched my first run of chickens last month and out of 8 eggs I had 7 that were fertile and 5 of those hatched so I'm thinking I'm off to a pretty good start. We bought 4 ducks (that's a whole other story!) And now have 7 purchased baby turkeys. We have one bronze and would like more if anyone has young chicks or even eggs and I want Bourbon reds which I can't find anywhere other than from hatcheries. I'd like to buy local if possible so I don't end up in the same situation I did with the ducks....
Anyway, I'm glad to meet everyone!

Welcome!
You can try the Auction in Gleason. For small farm animals they hold it every saturday and start with the goats, sheep and calves if any at noon and when they finish with all those they move on to the poultry and rabbits. I see turkeys everytime I go. It's nearly an hour drive for us but we go every saturday that the hubby isn't working. Also if your checking out the poultry before they sell and see an egg they are free to get unless the owner protests. We where told any eggs laid are for the taking if you want them by the workers there. I've never had a seller disagree. We got a turkey egg and an oegb egg last time. If I had waited a little longer I could have gotten another turkey egg. But somebody claimed it after the birds where sold. The fellas that handle the animals just handed it to the person that spoke up for it. I've only tried once to hatch turkey and had no luck but this 1 egg seems to be doing well so far. Hopefully it's a girl so we can have some big eggs for breakfast when ever it and if it lays. lol

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to my new venture and learning a lot more from all of you. Can you tell me where the auction is in Gleason? I may try to go tomorrow and talk my fiancee into getting me something for my birthday.... Lol
