I've been told that apple cider vinegar added to the water is a home remedy for cocci. The best thing to use is corid for cattle or sulmet but sulmet can actually harm them if given for too long.
Anybody know how well the apple cider vinegar will work. It's all I have and what I plan to use. I've had 2 so far I put down and no others are showing signs yet and I want to either catch it before they start to poop blood or prevent it if I can. I don't want to have to put anymore down.

From what I've read, apple cider vinegar and yogurt will promote good health, but will not kill or prevent cocci. It's a parasite,so I would check into treatents that kill parasites. If you want to start putting ACV in the water,I would say that's a good idea. You can get the organic at Kroger or Food Giant

I started them on the ACV in hopes it will help till I can get the corid. So far nobody else appears to be sick but i've heard this moves like the flu. One gets it they all get it. A fellow online poultry friend just had it go thru all her chicks like wild fire and she managed to save some. She used corid. I'll get yogurt tomorrow to hopefully help. It was the youngest ones that got it and there are 2 more that are the same age. They where in a pen with some a month older than they are and they seem to be fine....so far. (knock on wood)

I hope you get them well soon. It is disheartening to see them die.

What happened? Don't see it in the posts. vinegar will not cure anything but supposed to be good in the water to keep down green stuff..

We were discussing if ACV was a home remedy for Cocci. I pointed out that ACV,yogurt and other things keep the ph of the crop balanced, and will promote good health, kind of like a strong immune system, but if cocci is already present, some other remedy is needed.

I've only lost the 2 and the others are still doing fine. I wonder if it isn't cocci. Maybe they got into the fertilizer the hubby put around the tomato plants. All of the chicks that where outside have been over there. IDK. I was told that corid is what to use to cure cocci. Sulmet too but was told that it can also harm the chicks to only give it for 3 days. I still have them isolated. If all stays well the rest of this week i'll put them in a pen. I know they will be happy. They aren't liking the cage at all.
