ok my aunt was over this weekend and picked something off of her leg and said it was a chicken mite what do i do for them what the heck r they and will they hurt my chickens?

If they are mites, they can cause a real problem with your chickens.You can do a number of things. I usually clean out the nests, spray permethrin in he nests and the house, replace the nest material, then spray the chickens. They don't like it,so I wait until they go to roost. I make sure I spray around the leg and vent area.

Diatomaceous Earth, Neemsrrd Oil, and Seven Dust are all realy effect to use. Just clean out the coops removing any old bedding and clean up any poop. Spread which ever you choose to use all inside the coops and run. The chickens will dust themselves in the dirt getting the treatment on them.

Oh yes Vaseline spread on their legs and feet to suffocate the mites and sooth the skin irritation. Clean all the feed and water containers. The idea is to clean everything good.

For leg mites you can spray their legs with WD-40 and it will kill the mites. You can spray the wood parts of the coop also like nest box and roosts. But those kind of mites are usually up in the scales of their legs and feet.
