Good for you. They're nice chickens. I hatched out 1 roo out of a dozen eggs and I worked on hatching out some ladies for him for some time. I finally managed to get some but the poor fella has to wait. I can't put them in his pen till they grow up. He's massive and would only cripple them now. He's been a bachelor for a year now. They're nice chickens too but Blue only likes me so I can't let him out. He's way too big to have him attacking anybody.

I just had a nice Buff Orpington hen go broody this week and got a few eggs from Gina for her to get her 2nd Motherhood of the year award...she is the one that sat on golf balls in the spring and then I put 9 2-day old chicks I ordered from R & J Feed under her and now they are about to start laying very soon...I hope she is happy now. She is the best mother. I separated her into the converted rabbit cage with the add on nesting area I made for it, gave her two of her golf balls and the 8 Marans eggs and she sat straight down on them and went to work...day 2 of "hatch watch"!
Good luck with your hatch...I am anxious to see how she handles the entire process of setting REAL EGGS then waiting on their arrival to hatch...she is my pet/favorite of the whole flock.

My silkies and sizzles seem to nearly always be broody. I had all but 3 broody at once then none and now a sizzle. Egg production is very low right now. I got some silkie eggs from somebody in a swap. Mostly because I wanted the buff eggs. I want to get a buff silkie pen started for spring hatching.

My black sizzle thats broody has chicks due to hatch any day now. I gave her 5 of the eggs I got in a swap and put the others in the incubator and I have a pip from one in the incubator.
I have some of my silkie and sizzle eggs on an auction right now. There are more silkie than sizzle. The bbs, white and parridge pens have a few girls laying and down to 1 sizzle laying.
