I've got a JB quail hen that nearly had her feet amputated by another hen. I've been working on her for a couple weeks now and she is up and on her feet now. She wasn't even using them till today. I've been soaking her feet in warm salt water 3 x a week and then pour peroxide over then. Then I remove any dead tissue I can. Then I coat her feet very thick with neosporin and I rub it in real good all over her feet from above the injury to her toenails. And putting antibiotics in her water. I don't know if that has helped any because it's for respitory infections but It couldn't hurt. I know it looks bad in the pics but actually they look good. The skin is growing back and she actually usues her feet. Her toes where curled and she walked on her elbows. The swollen puffy parts looks like infection but I've attempted to release the pressure and drain them but it's not infection. It's the old skin over the new skin thats growing. The dark spots are scabs. She never loss circulation to her toes is why I believe I've been able to save her. She has a long road ahead of her but I was so happy when I saw her standing up and walking. Attachments:

Here's the other foot. She is standing, YEAY!! I have to clib the beak of the hen that did this because she was working on the roosters feet when I caught her. I first thought they had gotten attacked by a cat or coon till I caught her going after his feet. So they are all in separate cages right now. The rooster and injured hen are in the house (porch). He is very aggitated and I know he wants out of that little cage but till I can get Hannibals wife's beak clipped i'm not putting either of them back in that cage. He's healed up because she had just started on him but she crippled the hen. She had been getting a bloody back just above her tail and including her tail but I thought it was the roos claws but it had to be that hen. I'll give them a larger cage as soon as spring gets here and we redo the pens. They will have plenty of room. But if that meanie keeps hurting the others i'll have her for supper. I hate to do that because I don't have many of these quail. Their Georgia Giant Bob Whites and it took all summer just for them to get old enough to breed and I really don't want to have to start all over. I will be selling eggs when they get to laying fertile eggs. Ms. Hannibal is laying eggs nearly everyday but they're not fertile. I was told by the guy I got the eggs from that they need more room than what these in this cage have and their beaks need to be clipped. (I hate the word debeaked) I don't like doing it either but it's necessary here. Has anybody had any experience with this before? Any success with completely healing this kind of injury? Attachments:

I now her feet look bad now but it was worse a couple weeks ago. At least I haven't had to battle infection. Last and only time I had a quail get an infection I lost, well we lost the battle. I had to put it down. It had got pecked on the head pretty bad and I really thik it went thru the skull and it got infected real fast. I just done it in and got it over with instead of it suffering.

OO stitches. I had a chicken that really needed alot of stitches but I couldn't stomach it. She healed fabulously with no problems and was my best layer. I couldn't imagine having to stitch up an animal so large and that could do alot of damage to me. I guess if I raised one from a colt it wouldn't be so hard. I hope your horse heals well with no problems.
