So far he mentioned hatching and selling about 300 chicks. Not sure if he's sold all the pullets I (essentially) gave him. I think he also spoke of selling eggs for eating. Over the past couple of months he acquired at least 100+ chickens (about 3-5 months old, now) from me, and recently "took" several of my best laying hens (4 Tetra Tints, Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, Barred Rock, Black Australorpe, +) and Several Laying Ducks.
Says he's near Scott's Hill, but also Sweet Lips. Oh, his name is Tim.

Why did I give him my hens? Well, I sold him a lot of pullets (dirt cheap) during his first two visits... wanting to help out a young couple getting started. In exchange, he was going to come out and "process" a bunch of extra roosters I ended up with.
He'd been very friendly, sympathized with the situation I was in, and we seemed to clearly share the same love of feathered critters. He assured me that my beloved birds would be cared for as well as I'd done, and invited me to come visit them any time.
During his 3rd visit, I sent him off with more pullets, brooding equipment/supplies, several ducks and (although I hadn't planned on it) all but a few of my laying hens. Because the weather had warmed up, he said he couldn't "process" the roosters, but knew of "some Mexicans" who would take them. He was due to return and pick up the rest of the roosters, total up what he owed me (above the $40 down-payment) and we'd be good to go, as we'd done previously.
After he left I realized I didn't really want to part with my Ameraucana hen yet, and meant to hang on to my Brahma Rooster. Considering he'd only paid down $40 and had a remaining balance of at least another $100-$150, I was shocked when he became hostile, belligerent, uncooperative, refused to bring my two birds back, and then decided he didn't owe me any more money!

Maybe we need to start asking a few more questions from the people who buy from us...ie...introduce ourselves, get THEIR name as well, where they are from, just get a "feel for the deal" before we make it so! Often we do not know anything about some of the people who are coming by our meets. Timbo, maybe we need to insist that anyone purchasing birds sign our meeting book and get some sort of information to add to our credibility or think of some way to not only protect our animals but to filter out those who would otherwise become some type of "chicken mill" with no concern for breed standards or would try to run the rest of us out of any kind of hobby business we are currently enjoying. Just food for thought!

That really makes me mad. I want NO PART of the larger operations and they ruin it for us small farmers. For one thing from a strickly business point of view they can drive down the prices (like Walmart) and provide inferior product. If any one up that way knows any police I would inquire with them what they know about this guy. I honestly do not know if there is any way to "filter" out people and remember as with this guy, everyone is not honest about their intentions. I do believe we should never be associated with this sort of operation and if it seems or feels weird trust your gut........protect you birds!!
