We have an over population of mice and i've been told by the grandsons they saw a rat. We desperately need to put out poison for them since our cat just can't handle the multitudes we have. So I need to know what poisons on the market in our area that will kill the little feed eating and sickness spreading vermits. But not hurt my cat if she eats the poisoned vermin. The only thing I've seen around here is TomCat. I heard this will also kill my cat if she eats a poisoned mouse. I was told that Havoc is safe but I haven't found it here, yet anyway.
I've tried the bucket of water with the rod put on top with something that has feed on it placed in the middle of the rod. The mice fall in the water while trying to get to the bait in the middle. I didn't catch not one mouse. I am going to put a little feed in the bottom of a storage tub. I know they can't get out once they get in to get the feed. I got 3 mice yesterday just by leaving an empty feed tub open. So I'm going to do that today and see how many I catch. I'm sure alot
But if anybody knows of a poison that is safe to my cat please do let me know. I need alot of it whatever it is. We moved a pen and killed 16 mice. Many got away and that was just one pen. We have 9 pens and only 5 of them can be moved. The other 4 are attached to the garage.

Unfortunately I don't know of any safe poisons.....However, if you need additional cats for population control I will have 6 kittens available in 5 weeks! Lol.
Other than that I would suggest live traps if you have a way to eliminate them once caught.

the auto reset traps would be the only thing i would know to tell you other than snakes. We have a 6ft snake in our feed shed that has kept our mouse population down. I assume its a chicken snake.

I don't do snakes. And another cat is the last thing we need. We have all our animals spayed or neutered and just can't afford that these days. I'm hoping my feed in a bucket works. I would put out the sticky traps but I have to figure out where to put them so the chickens don't get nosey or the mice don't throw dirt on them. Those little buggars are pretty smart.

Aww I love babies. They look like what my cat might have. She's mostly black with white in her ears and a spot on her chest. She's a good cat especially for not getting any training. But really, cats have a ind of their own. Not easy to train. For me anyway.

Try those sticky traps.they work good at my house.I also worry about accidently poisoning one of my other animals and kids.they are completely non toxic and they are usually still alive.they just get stuck and the more they struggle the more they get stuck. But I do understand about the chickens getting in them.my dog has a couple times.she gets nosey when she hears a mouse squeaking.if you pull it off slowly it will mostly bounce back into the rest of the glue.maybe just a sticky residue left behind, but with the way silkie feathers are I'm not sure.

Actually I had forgotten about sticky traps. I am going to use them, however I am going to take a small box and put them in there so the birds don't get stuck!! I will let you know how it works. I have two cats also well they aren't mine they are ferrel but hang around and look fat and healthy, but still have nasty mice. I HATE THEM!!!!

I concidered the sticky traps but where I would have to put them to catch the mice it wouldn't work. They burrow up under the feeders and waters. I set the water containers up on bricks. I guess I could set the feeders up on bricks and set the sticky traps between the bricks so the chickens don't get to them. Hmm. I would need alot of sticky traps. If we killed 16 mice in one pen, there are alot of mice. Many ran away so it would be safe to say there where about 20 mice including 1 nest of babies.
I'll get a bunch of sticky traps today and work on that as soon as I can. Tomorow will be chicken bathing day. Today Gavin has ball practice as soon as he gets out of tutoring then American Idol so no setting sticky traps today. Gotta watch Idol. lol
