A couple nights ago Bobby saw a coon by the sizzle pen. I have a black sizzles pullet missing. So He and Gavin hunted it down and it's no longer a problem. Last night just as I was getting snuggled in to sleep I heard a noise outside and thought somebody was messing with the truck or something. So I get the spotlight and open the door and just at the corner of the porch inches from the door was a oppossum. At first I thought somebody dropped off a puppy till I shined the spotlight on it. So I go wake up Bobby and now there is no longer a oppossum roaming around the yard. I have a broody Guinea hen nested in my Iris bed and don't want any unwelcome critters roaming around in the yard. I don't know if she would fight it off or just let something kill her and/or take her eggs. I really need to go and buy some honey buns and put out the live trap. Although opossums have a purpose they don't have one here and coons are so pretty. I'd rather relocate them far far away but till I get some bait it's option #2.
Anybody know how to keep rabbits out of the vegetable garden? If it was rabbit season I wouldn't have a problem. They would be in the freezer but it's not and they are helping themselves to the best tomatos before I do. And the turnip greens are coming up real nice. I guess if they feast on the vegetable garden they will be nice and plump come rabbit season.

Rabbits would go in the freezer anyway season or not if they are messing up your crops. They make so stuff to deter them but it doesnt work long. We leave our mutt dog out running the yard and chicken pens and he loves to chase critters away as long as they run.

We live on a busy road and nobody cares if they run over your dog or cat. Plus our dog would be digging her way in my pens and i'd shoot her instead so she has to stay in a pen. I really think she needs to go live somewhere that don't have poultry of any kind and lots of safe room to roam and run. She's lived in that pen most of her life and she turned a year old in Feb. She gets very little attention besides when I talk to her when i'm outside. She's had no training either. Poor dog. But she barks when something comes in the yard and I can tell if it's a somebody or critter bark. She's Bobby's dog, he says she's Gavins dog so I feed and water her. She can't get let out of her pen because she goes for the birds. If a car hit her we would be paying for damages because she's pretty big.
This morning when Bobby got a good look at the opossum he shot it was solid white with red eyes. It's feet where dark. I told him it was a shame it wandered into our yard. An albino opossum is a first for us to see and a shame it had to die but the safety of my birds and eggs is priority.

It's that time again. But I've NEVER seen such huge possums in my life. They come up every night trying to get to my paints. So far we've been able to lower their population by 2. The only thing our live trap caught was our neighbors cat. The last one that was shot I wish I had video'd it. Gavin snuck up on it and shot it but it ran for the wood pile that they are living under. He nly had I shell so he chased it down using the butt of his gun hitting it everytime it stopped. It was actually hilarious to watch but I was wondering why on earth he was chasing it instead of shooting it. I didn't find out till he came back in. We haven't gotten the bohemouth one yet. I swear that one was the size of a medium sized dog. Well a little smaller but it was huge. Gavin also walked up on the bobcat yesterday and got the scare of his life. Thankfully he had his gun and shot to chase it away instead of towards him like it was headed. The woods are really moving with predators lately.

One more down and don't know how many more there is to go. That big one is still out there I know. The lady down the road keeps throwing out left overs and is attracting skunks. I hope they stay there and don't come here. We did see one on the game cam a few months ago along with an armadillo.

We have a doe in the woods that is nursing a baby. I didn't know they had babies this time of year.
