Has anyone been to this sale on Saturdays in Gleason Tn. They list a misc. sale and then sell goats and poultry. Any information would be appreciated.

I've gone to it once. I prefer the one in Mayfield. First they auction off all the goats and then the poultry and small animals. A warning though. The boys that work in the back will try to buy your stuff for what they know is low and then they sell it at the auction. They are not gentle on the animals. They broke off a goats horn from pulling it around by it. If your planning on selling I don't recommend going there because everything sells low and they are rough on the animals. If your going to buy, it's the place to go. Mayfield is more professional and they don't allow the back yard selling. They are more organized also. It took me half an hour to find out where to take my birds then another half hour from the boy trying to buy my stuff before they got auctioned off. People will also hang out in the back trying to buy your stuff instead of going thru the auction. My husband stayed with our birds to make sure they didn't disappear or something happen to them from the goats being chased all over the place. Cages where getting damaged along with what was in them because the goats would get away from the boys. Which I don't blame them as rough as they where on them. I'd run too. You can buy goats for $40 and down. I saw some turkeys go for $30 each, full grown ones. Rabbits for as little as $1 each. My chicks sold for .50 each when the same breed sold for $2 to $5 each in Mayfield.

Is the sale in Mayfield every Saturday? How do they charge on poultry? By the number you have or the dollar amount your birds bring? Where is the sale barn located?

The sale in Mayfield is on Wednesdays. I'm not sure how they charge for their service but I think it's by how much your livestock brings in. They start the poulry and small animals at 8 am. They auction off farm items after all the animals are sold. Here is there info so you can call and make sure I have that date right. I get confused if it's wed or thurs.

We decided to go to the Gleason Auction this saturday and although we where a bit late it was running better than it was when we went before. That young man that was scamming people wasn't there either. We went looking for a white silkie roo and came home with 4 EE's and a pair of RIR. And 2 cages. We missed the Silkies that they had. I still need that roo though.

I have been to all 3 auctions a few times. Scotts Hill was better run and has a quicker pace to it, but I went today and they had a guy working the ring that had brought many pens of bantams. They let him decide if he would accept the auction price after the birds had been bid off. Probably 90% of the bids were refused by the person. No reserve was ever set. The sale dragged on because of this. If you dont want to sell it, you should leave it at home or at least set a reserve price if you are not ashamed of the price of your birds. At least at Gleason you have the same person starting the bids, has been a different one each time at Scotts Hill.

The man in Gleason that starts out the bidding is nearly always the one that gets our birds. He sees us and asks which ones are ours or he can guess. He says they look better than most that come thru there. He buys and resells. I don't know if he resells what he gets from us or not, but thats how he does business. So probably so. Our first trip there wasn't a good one but it has been better. There are alot of pitiful looking birds that people bring in there. Last time there where probably 8 in a cage that where completely bald on their backs and their bottoms where red and bare, Not something I want to bring on our property. We sold some Bob White chicks. I have more I want to sell but will have to wait till next week I reckon. Unless somebody else wants them. I just don't want to deal with them. They are too flighty for my liking. I have 17 that need to go. Their too young to process.
