Does your neighbor count as a predator when he shoots your guinea hen with a pistol when your at work?

i would think he should especially if the guinea was on your land hopefully he was dumb enough to throw it back on your property if he killed it on his if he did that then i would have a police report made and have him pay for it i actually had a neighbor that dumb got my money for my bird good luck james

You might try calling the sheriff's office, if in the county, & having a conversation with them in regards on what to do and maybe have them come out and both you and the officer go over and just have a conversation with the neighbor and try to work out some solution. That would be an easy way and give you some back up in case the situation got a little tense or overly physical or anything...not knowing your neighbor. But then again, it might escalate the problem...that is a very hard call to make. Or maybe just go over and ask if they heard any shots in the area that might have killed one of your Guinea hens...that you are worried that "someone" or some "kids" might be out to cause mischief and did they have any concerns and turn the situation back on them for their input and see where that "door opener" to that conversation might lead to. Again, a tough call to make there and hopefully you can have a good outcome. As my Mother always said, you can catch a lot more bees with honey than salt. Good luck, Rockachaw! But doesn't it really make you mad though that folks are so mean spirited...what problem was it of theirs anyway? It is mind blowing to think people are just out and out mean. Thanks guys,
At first I was angry, left work and confronted the neighbor over the hen and other underhanded deeds that he has done in the past (like pulling up my property stakes). Ten years ago, I would have just whipped him and dealt with the consequences. Luckily I have grown up and have become wiser.
I did call the Sheriff's office and got a police report just in case things escalate. That little incident got me to thinking and while the sheriff was there I asked him a few questions.
I asked the sheriff, that if my neighbor's septic system is on my property do I have the right to dig it up and back fill it because it is on my property. The Sheriff said yes, But he advised me to let an attorney send a registerd letter telling the neighbor that he had 30 days to move the septic system and repair all damages from that removal. He also asked me to notify the Sheriff's office onthe day that I plan to back fill the system so that A deputy can be present. I thought that was fair.
I also asked him If I could have my animals caged anywhere on my property. He said yes, as long as it was not a lion, tiger or such because I would need a special permit. I than asked if it would be O.K. to put a few caged Peacocks on my property 5ft from my neighbors' bedroom window. He just started laughing heartily and said "Yes, sir".
So, Any thought of where I can get some peacocks!!!!!

I like your sheriffs. What county are you in? I've dealt with some pretty cool ones through the years, but usually it has been the opposite. One year at my sister's place, one came to the house during some bad flooding, just to check how we were doing. We invited him in for some hot coffee, and as he was leaving he looked at her pot plants she had brought in out of the rain and said "Those things look like they need more nitrogen." Thanked us for the coffee and drove off.
