Hey how many eggs does/can a hen sit on? I put nine out under a buff and she left four out. I pushed them back under her. do they rotate which eggs they are on or did she plan not have the room for all of them?

Cks-From what I have been told/have seen with ours, hens know when eggs are good or not. It could be that the 4 she left out aren't fertile. A buff orphington should be able to sit 9 eggs. If she keeps pushing them out I would think that they are not fertile. A chicken can sit on as many eggs as she can keep under her and keep warm. We just had a banty sit some and she could only get two of her own eggs under her.

I've had 2 of my silkie hens go broody. I finally gave up trying to break them. So I gave them all some eggs. They may as well earn their rent by saving electricity for me if their not going to lay any eggs.
