Ugh! I went out this morning and 4 more are gone-two buff orph babies (well about 3 mo old), a serama mix, and sumatra. I never thought anything would get the banty and sumatra-they are crazy fast and fly really well. I followed the feather trail and found the headless remains of the sumatra. Checked inside the top of the coop (we have an A-frame style with stairs leading to the top to the roosting poles) to see if anyone was hiding and apparently whatever got them went into the top of the coop and got one-there were feathers everywhere.

Lord I am so sorry you had this happen. I think it sounds more like a coon than a possum. Sorry.

Thanks cks. I thought it was a possum since we caught one a few days ago. After last night I'm with you in thinking it's a coon. Whatever it was climbed over the fence to get in and out. Anyone have good tips for catching a coon? Looks like we're goin to have to start locking everyone up at night again. I hate doing that to them.

Thanks, Spamela. I had thought about putting the body of the chicken that was beheaded in the trap. We usually usually catch possums on cat or dog food or scraps.

Possums and coons eat pretty much the same thing. trying to Target one and not the other is pretty much impossible. But I assure you that you want to be rid of both of them.

I heard they love marshmallows. Yeah, you have to pen them. Better penned than dead. This is a lean time of year for predators. They are going to get creative.

Well I'm proud of my wife and boxer, my dog saw a opossum down at the chicken brooder and started barking my wife went outside to see what he was barking at and ended up smoking the little chicken killer.
