I think I have 8 hens wanting to set. I don't need that many chicks. Anyone need a few eggs set but don't have a broody? Now is your chance. Send me a message. These are large hens, mainly marans, so they can cover a dozen good sized eggs with no problem.

What kind of hens do you have? A lot depends on the breed. There is really nothing you can do. It's a hormonal thing. Sometimes if you leave the eggs in the nest for a day or two, a hen may get the notion. I have cuckoo marans and they love to have babies. I find that when a couple start, others get the idea.

I have 3 silkie hens and 2 sizzle hens broody right now. After I fill my last order for eggs, they can all go broody for all i'm concerned. I want to turn off my incubator and plan to after this last batch hatches.
I'm pretty sure we've taken care of the snake problem. I put moth balls out everywhere. The ones in the coop I put in empty water bottles and poked holes in them so the chickens can't get to them. I haven't had any eggs come up missing since.

I was the same way. When I learned how to hatch I got hooked. It seems my incubators are always going. I have plans to shut them down soon. Unless my quail hens decide to let the new roo breed, then I'll be incubating quail eggs. Unless I put them under broodys. lol

we get eggs from are coop two times a day that was my problem . hens did not get the time to think about being broody before we got the eggs . i don't know what to do about that . i learn as i go. i left eggs in nest for a week before one set on them .eggs that she is sitting on aren't any good want to put some good blood lines under her if she stays on nest
