I've got 3 partridge silkie chicks so far and 1 has a vaulted skull. The quail where due to go in the hatcher today but they didnt want to wait for me to put them in there. I came in today and found 2 chicks under the turner. So they've been moved to the hatcher too. The chicks are fine. Good thing they're so small or they would have gotten hurt. I'll update. ;D

I sell the chicks for $1 each. If you wait 5 more weeks for them to grow up they're $4 each and $5 processed each. There seems to be a big demand for them right now and I don't have but the 2 groups. I have some hatching in the next few days that I plan to keep because they are a different blood line. Then another group in about 2 weeks I think it is. I hadn't planned on hatching anymore but if people want them I will.
I'm getting a surprise guest next week. My brother is coming to visit me from Indiana. The one that had heart surgery and I spent 2 of the worst months up there possible. It snowed it seemed everyday and had a blizzard that shut the place down. Anyway, I'm not suppose to know about it but I can figure things out pretty good. Having a big mouth hubby helps too. lol If you plan to come next week just give me a call ahead of time to make sure I"m here. 731-538-2970

A good thing to accessorize your new bator with is a thermometer/hydrometer. You'll be able to keep the temperature and humidity more accurate. Walmart has them and they're about $7 bucks. They're digital and takes a AAA battery and the battery last for about a year or longer. Those little plastic thermometers that come with the incubator aren't accurate.
You don't want to have staggard hatches if you have 1 incubator. It's a huge pain. Been there done that. It's also worth it to get an automatic turner. You can find them on ebay for around $15. You'll want to get your temps and humidity as close as to what it's suppose to be before you put your eggs in it. It will change after it settles and the eggs warm up and you'll have to adjust it again.
The room makes a difference too.The room should stay about the same temp. When we first moved over here I had my incubators and hatcher in the utility room and I had a near perfect hatch. When my husband got the washer and dryer, fridge and freezer over here I had to move th bators and my hatches are near failures. Some have been.
You also don't want to open the lid any more than you have to to add water or turn the eggs. If you hand turn do so at least 3 times a day until day 18 then you can stop and raise the humidity. Depending on what you have in there if you need to get the humidity up high you can add a sponge or two and get them wet.
The styrofoam bators can be a pain because they need to be watched and adjusted if needed. A Hovobator is alot better than an LG. I have 2 LG's I use as incubators and a Hovobator is the hatcher.
What ya planning on putting in it?

I always worm mine in the spring and in the fall. It has yet to stop them from laying. But thats mine. My bbs silkies are on strike. The partridge ones started laying again after a long vacation and my white ones I think are planning their vacation soon. Maybe the Bahamas because they're taking off their feathers to get ready for the bikini. lol

I've got about a dozen jb quail in lock down. My last ones in the incubator. It's now empty. I have nearly 2 dozen eggs sitting there waiting for takers. Anybody want to hatch some jb quail? After I fill the other carton that will make 2 dozen the rest go in the fridge.
I also have 6 partridge eggs a couple bbs and a few white silkie eggs. I expect to get at least 1 more maybe 2 more partridge eggs and 1 or 2 more white. If anybody is interested in those. I'll put them in my incubator sunday if nobody buys them. I ask $20 a dozen for my silkie eggs. And I can ship those if you want for the cost of shipping and I do take paypal. Pick up is always better. No xray.

It was 9 eggs because 6 hatched the last time I looked and there are 3 eggs left. ellisfarms came with his wife and little girl and got all my other youngsters this evening. I decided to go ahead and set the eggs I had in the incubator for our freezer. I have yet to get any in my freezer. Quail are in demand this year. I'll have to keep some for more breeders. I just have a very small operation. That is 4 hens and a roo. I have the GG bob whites but I don't expect to get any eggs this year. They're just becoming mature and their breeding season is almost over. The silkie eggs go in lock down tomorrow. What I don't sell in the auction of the ones I have collected will go in the incubator
Is everybody else about done with hatching?

ellisfarms - both those black sizzle chicks primaries are coming in frizzled. It's showing up today. Im not sure about the light one yet but I thought I would mention it because your wife was wanting some. These are the babies you saw on the front porch. And thanks for the compliment. If it wasn't dark the birds in the A frams you could have seen but they had gone to bed. There are the partridge silkies in one pen and bantams in the other two that are my grandsons birds.
